Mulembe Safaris

“Uganda is a fairy tale, former British Prime Minister Sir. Winston Churchill wrote in his book, My African journey.’’

“You climb up …..and at the end there is a wonderful, new world. The scenery is different, the vegetation is different, the climate is different and most of all, the people are different from anything elsewhere to be seen in the world range of Africa. For magnificence, for variety of form and color, for profusion of brilliant life…..Uganda is truly the Pearl of Africa.’’

This is manifested in the physical beauty of it, the people and all sorts of tourism aspects as shown in this booklet.

Uganda occupies 236,041 square kilometers. To the West is DR Congo, to the North is South Sudan, to the East is Kenya and to the South is Rwanda. Uganda straddles the equator with Lake Victoria, the second largest lake forming part of its Southern border. It is from the same lake, that River Nile, the world’s longest river begins its journey at Jinja 80Kms East of Kampala. Uganda lies entirely between two arms of the Great Rift Valley in East Africa. To the West is the Western Rift valley that runs from North to South and is occupied by the Lakes Albert, Edward, George and Kivu. On the border of DR Congo exists Rwenzori Mountain ranges, with several peaks as Stanley, whose highest point is 5109M (Margarita peak) followed by Speke;4890M, followed by Baker 4843M, followed by Gessi 4798M and lastly Emin 4793M ASL. There are also other Mountains like Elgon, Volcanic Muhabura ranges protruding from the rift valley between 3,500 M and 4,000 M high.

Generally, Uganda is   a land of plateaus, in some areas though there are hills which are 200 -500 M high. Some of these hills are heavily eroded. The equator crosses Southern Uganda, and the climate is equatorial but moderate by altitude. On the Northern shores of Lake Victoria, rains are experiences throughout the year. In the rest of the country, a dry season or two happen in the year. The temperatures around Lake Albert are the highest while the lowest ones occur at the glaciated zone of Mt. Rwenzori. There are lots of interesting things to see in Uganda beside the ones mentioned above. In this booklet, we shall explore many interesting places beside the discussion of people, cultures and their origins.
